Despite having no prior mining experience nor the know-how to drive anything larger than a regular car, I am fascinated by Beat Felber’s new LEGO creations. Maybe the size and power of these giant earthmoving machines tickle my fancy. Whatever the reason, here’s the 400-ton Terex Unit Rig MT 6300AC dump truck. The real deal has tires that are four meters or well over 13 feet in diameter. The-um-LEGO deal has custom tires that are not official LEGO parts but suits this beast quite well.
This rear view shows the working suspension that supports those massive custom tires.
And a regular minifig-scale pickup — a solid LEGO model in its own right — shows how huge the real thing is in real life.
Looming even larger over the Terex is the Caterpillar 6090 FS. The real thing dwarf the mighty Terex and tips the scales at a staggering 1080 tons! The LEGO replica is considerably lighter but both vehicles are replete with Power Functions making these beasts a must-have at any construction site.
The Caterpillar has a ton of amazing details (or rather 1080 tons of details, I suppose), from realistic pneumatics to the gantries and ladders that operaters use to move around the massive beast.
