To say that this year’s release of LEGO Ideas 21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale has had an impact on the LEGO fan community might be the understatement of the year. D&D remains as popular as ever in the role-playing game community, and the joining of a custom-made game with custom-made LEGO models delights all kinds of builders. One of those builders, Luis Saladrigas of LEGO Masters US Season 4, has gone above and beyond with an epic creation depicting a fantasy campaign. Check out the whole thing below, but be sure to read on for tons of details as well.
Before we get into the proper build, let’s first have a gander at this epic party of adventurers looking to summit the Ravenspire. Running the gamut of D&D classes, I spy a rogue, wizard, bard, and at least two paladins. I appreciate the array of colors represented in this crew, not just focused entirely on grays, browns, and tans. The CMF series recently unveiled at SDCC will no doubt broaden the options in this party.
This adventure begins, as all good D&D campaigns do, at an inn. This glorious two-story structure features some wonderful textures, with profile bricks set in the walls and a roof tiled with quarter-circle parts. I also appreciate the small stable on the left of the building.
After ascending the path up the mountain, and taking on various orcs and goblins along the way, the party arrives at the gates of Ravenspire. The lighting here is outstanding, especially the pop of blue coming from the wizard’s staff amid all the other warm lighting in the scene. The raven’s crest can be found above the door, and I love the eye-filled vines creeping along the wall.
Once atop the tower, it’s time to take on the BBEG (D&D-speak for the Big, Bad, Evil Guy). The huge raven is menacing and looks to be a worthy match for this horde of characters. And these characters are letting the spells fly! The wizard has let loose a firebolt. A paladin dives in with a sword drawn. And a ranger has readied a spell-infused arrow, glowing bright blue.
But it should all be worth it for our adventurers if they succeed. Check out all the loot found in the raven’s nest. The technique on this bowl is exquisite, knitting brown tubes together into a brambly crucible heaped with gold.
