It’s December 23rd, aka Christmas Eve Eve! Only two doors remain. How about a little trivia first? The first LEGO Harry Potter calendar debuted in 2019. This year’s iteration echoes that version with a few very similar builds, and the same professor – Flitwick! But while 2019 had a younger-looking dapper Flitwick, this year we get the wizened whitebeard version from the first two films. Why two such different takes? Thank Alfonso Cuaron, director of Prisoner of Azkaban, who restyled the character for a cameo appearance that ended up sticking for later films. A win for Warwick Davis who was spared a lot of extra prosthetic makeup! What will Harry Potter’s calendar bring today, not to mention our other gifts from Friends, Disney, City, Star Wars, and Spider-Man?
As ever, our intrepid TBB team is on hand with witty comments, insightful observations, and bad jokes for each day’s builds. And of course, you can add your own thoughts in the comments section each day! So without further ado, let’s crack open the build for day 23…
Disney unpacks a matching tower for the multi-day castle build. Frineds wraps up the day with a bright pair of presents.
Harry Potters stuffs a turkey for yesterday’s table. From City, a fine sled.
Spider-Man hams it up with a porker of a snowman, while Star Wars makes one last stop at the Original Trilogy for Luke’s Landspeeder.
I’d never say no to an extra turkeys, but I think it’s going to be hard to top the Spider-Ham snowman. What do you all think?
Theo: For the second year running, Marvel finds a nice way to bring some variety to LEGO’s oft-used snowman concept.
Daniel: The speeder is pretty good. Always nice to have another turkey, but wow, snow Spider-Ham is so random I have to like it.
Kyle: The Peter Porker snowman looks like something out of my nightmares! Since it’s been a while since I’ve seen a turkey in a set, I feel like giving it to Harry Potter. Though the LEGO Landspeeder is a pretty good micro build from a SW calendar that’s had surprisingly few.
Bre: There are only so many ways you can do the SW microbuilds, so I feel like I’ve seen all these offerings before to some close degree in MOCs. That said, I do like the Landspeeder. The rest of the offerings are decent as well, apart from the partial Disney build, which is fairly “meh” still.
The Spectacular Spider-Ham wints by a snout in our estimation.
“Forget about HAM, you fools! I bring TURKEY! I am the funny one! LAUGH AT ME OR YOUR HEAD WILL END UP NEXT TO QUENTIN’S ON MY COZY MANTLE!!”
“Yes, Ashoka. Give into the dark side and sleigh!”
What delights will tomorrow bring? Come back tomorrow for the final six advent gifts. And be sure to share your thoughts on today’s offerings in the comments!
