Android freedom fighters lead the charge in a new weekly feature [Minifig Monday]

The Brothers Brick started as a minfig-focused site, so with our 20th anniversary fast approaching, it’s high time we bring back the celebration of custom minifigure creations. A lot has changed in the minifig scene since TBB founder Andrew shared his first fig. Collectible Minifigure lines and ever-expanding licenses have exploded the range of minifig elements and accessories, and social media has led to more channels to share creations and get inspired by the community. Minifig Mondays is a new feature where we choose a theme and showcase recent creations from the custom Minifig community. This week’s theme is Androids – humanoid robots.

Our first figs are a collaboration between Red Impala and Bambus Bricks Customs. These three are members of Onyx Talon, a faction of freedom-fighting androids in a post-apocalyptic future. Ferret the infiltrator, Hare the scout, and Beetle the reconnaissance drone provide intel and overwatch for the team. I love the digitigrade leg designs, especially Hare’s with the hotdog feet. In case you’re wondering where Hare’s eerie face is from, it’s from Star Wars: Solo character Enfys Nest.

Red and Bam also made this trio from the same universe.  Sync is an urban combat android, Sparrow is a recon and support drone, and Samuel “Ghost” Evans is a human operator aligned with the androids. I love the head design on Sync, especially the use of a Mercedes logo tile. The builders credit Ronin Bricks for inspiration on the leg designs. (There’s an amazing builder for minifig scale androids!)

This pair of droids were assembled by Brennen (brickbot_studio). Per the lore, Units A-03 and T-09 are part of the Ishtar IV Mission and controled by centrail AI unit Cyrus. I’m a sucker for the white and gold color scheme. T-09 doesn’t contain minifig elements, but it’s definitely minifig adjacent, continuing the tradition of brick-built companions that LEGO has included since the earliest Space sets. It’s an incredible spindly design and the ring-shaped head continues a recent trend among bot builders.

This whimsical trio, “BB and the Boiz,” are another collaboration between Brennen and the proliffic Fool’s Figures. In addition to classic BB-8 we see BB as drone and battle droid. The latter stands on General Grievious legs and uses a Ninjago Cole torso that matches the color scheme perfectly. And who doesn’t love a droid with a mowhawk?

Rounding out our first feature is a souped up spin on the Exo Force Iron Drones from brilliant mech designer zakar.ion. Armed with drill cannons made from bee hives, its punch is sure to sting. It’s fun to see these classic sidekick bots get a chane to stand in the spotlight.

That’s it for our first Minifig Monday. Let us know what you think in the comments and suggest builders or themes you’d like to see included in the future. Until then, think big and stay small!
