Quick Build #15: Tiny Toothless

Sometimes LEGO produces a set that I’m instantly drawn to. It might not be a crowd pleaser, which I think is the case with Toothless (available now), but still I fell in love with it. And I’m saying this because I feel that people would’ve wanted a more realistic Toothless, with maybe a Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III minifigure. Or just more dragony-looking… dragon.

The official LEGO set of Toothless that is being released today

Don’t get me wrong, I like cute Chibi characters, and the official LEGO version of Toothless is doing a pretty good job of portraying this.

So before we get our hands on the real thing here at BrickNerd, I thought we’d build a mini version of the Chibi Toothless.

I love that cute doggy pose that the original have

Don’t mind the open stud here, I just didn’t have a 4th 1×1 brick with stud on the side in light bluish gray 😀

Instructions to Build Chibi Toothless

I started with the eyes and spent significantly more time than I had planned. But in the end, I was very happy with the result.

Because the head of my version of Toothless is a bit heavy, I had to include also a stand so he won’t fall on his face. I tried to replicate the pose as closely as I could with the real set. The only thing that mine is not doing is to rotate its little head, but you can open and close the mouth. The wings can also go up and down, and the tail can swivel. (But enough about me, how are you? 😀 )

Are you ready to build a little bundle of black cuteness? Let’s go! Here are the instructions to build it:

You can download the full parts list for Toothless here and import it directly to BrickLink. (Parts lists are an XML file that can be uploaded to BrickLink or Stud.io.)

Closing Thoughts

I hope that LEGO has more How to Train Your Dragon sets coming—who doesn’t love dragons and goofy vikings?

In the last month, I’ve put several LEGO sets on my list that were really cool looking (to me), and Toothless was one of them. I loved the Nike Dunk one, for which Richard Dryden wrote an awesome article here on BrickNerd. And as a sneaker head, I’ll be getting it for sure!

I’ll definitely do some minifying of a few other LEGO sets, so stay tuned for the instructions on those.

What do you think of the Tootless Lego set? Is it meeting your expectations, or you wanted something more?
