Our favorite holiday tradition is opening all six LEGO Advent Calendars, one day at a time, with you, our readers! Along with spoiler pics of the daily gifts, we include commentary and alternate builds to celebrate the season and creativity.
We have an all-star cast of custom minifig creators leading our Advent adventure this year. Fool’s Figures is wizarding his way through Harry Potter and Frozen calendars. ExpansionBricks is launching Star Wars and Friends. And beyondb0nes is digging into Minecraft and City. Now let’s open some doors and see what gifts are in store for today!
Fools: A nice frothy glass of butterbeer! I can’t help but crave a glass after looking at this little build.
Bones: It’s not really the season to enjoy a nice cold beer, but the build is quite interesting. This piece of white cream is perfect for the top.
Expansion: That’s a minifig scale glass right? At least that how much butterbeer I’d want!
Jake: I can’t help but picture minifig Pippen oggling this. “It comes in pints?”
Fools: Kristoff comes here with what I assume is some broccoli, but I’m honestly not sure. All I know is that carrot is gigantic!
Bones: Just like Anna on day 8, the print on this mini doll fits the theme (well, it’s hard to do otherwise with Frozen!) and it’s very nice.
Jake: Microdoll Elsa and Anna worked, but something feels off with Kristoff. Maybe it’s the darker body but I just see an uncanny big head.
Fools: Today’s alt-build – a Frozen-style spinner.
Bones: Once Space shows up in this calendar, you can’t stop it. Today we get a little Alien we’ve already seen in several sets from the theme, equipped with the helmet that also reappeared in this space line. Very cool.
Fools: Honestly, pretty out of place in my opinion, this little alien could’ve been something much more festive.
Jake: On its own, it doesn’t say Christmas, but I love the inclusion. After seeing Frost’s Space-themed Christmas builds, I really crave an all-Space Advent!
Bones: Polar bears are definitely trendy this year. After the costume from City’s Day 1, here comes the brickbuilt version in the well-known pixelated style. A very welcome addition, also making its return in this year’s set 21277. Its last appearance was all the way back in 2018!
Fools: It’s great to finally see this mob in LEGO again, and it looks so good! The proportions really lend themselves to the LEGO style here.
Expansion: That’s a very unfortunate place for that alien to land on Earth – polar bears are vicious.
Bones: Training is important, and our reindeer totally gets it!
Jake: Don’t skip leg day, buddy.
Expansion: Didn’t expect a 4th sleepover guest, but the more the merrier! This character has reindeer pyjamas and interestingly represents an amputee. Sleeping bag in light aqua 4/5
Fools: Another friend joins the sleepover. Would’ve been nice to get something additional this time, but I like the color of the sleeping bag at least.
Expansion: A Jawa with gonk droid Christmas sweater. Maybe it’s because I’m feeling starved of minifigs in this calendar, but I’m loving this guy. The classic Jawa hood still looks great and this just confirms that I need to build some gonks 5/5
Bones: I had lost hope of seeing a nice sweater in this year’s calendar, but here it is. Not better or worse than usual in my opinion, but the minifigures are very pretty overall.
Fools: While I love this little Jawa, I can’t help but feel a little disappointed. We used to get super cool festive figure variants, now we just get characters wearing sweaters.
Expansion: The Jawa and a cyborg buddy team up for some bounty hunting. The amputee arm has a bar-sized end that allows for interesting attachments.
Bones: That’s Samus C-3PO!
