I can’t make my mind up on tiki bars. On the one hand, some of them feel a bit tacky and out-dated; on the other hand, a nice fruity cocktail in a hot summer goes down a treat. The next one on my list to visit is owned by Bart Marable (bartsbrickworks), who has just opened the LEGO Kon-Briki bar. First impressions are good! It looks very relaxed, and by beating the rush we don’t need to worry about standing awkwardly at the bar waiting for a table. Let’s take a look inside and see what this new establishment has to offer!
First stop: the bar. The lighting is very tastefully done; I particularly like the fixtures made from transparent LEGO rock elements in nets! There’s a great selection of drinks on offer too. Of course, no tiki bar is complete without tiki head cups, and those are artfully represented by stacked rollerskates.
Speaking of tiki heads, there’s no missing the centre-piece of this venue. It’s set in the tallest bit of the building (which is also wonderfully built too, incidentally). Its eyes do seem to follow you around the room, though. I don’t think I was imagining it… Perhaps the bartender made mine a double by mistake.
Anyway, once we get to our table we can continue admiring the decor, and Bart has really pulled from all corners of the LEGO world here. Newer elements like collectible minifigure headwear sit alongside classic pirate maps, and there’s even a re-purposed NHL hockey mask here too! And once again, the lighting really brings the place to life.
That concludes my trip to the Kon-Briki – I had a great time! If you see this bar at any conventions, I thoroughly recommend a visit. Thanks for showing us around, Bart!
